Editorial Reviews
With Pimsleur Language Programs you don't just study a language, you
learn it -- the same way you mastered English! And because the technique
relies on interactive spoken language training, the Pimsleur Language
Programs are totally audio -- no book is needed!
The Pimsleur programs provide a method of self-practice with an
expert teacher and native speakers in lessons specially designed to work
with the way the mind naturally acquires language information. The
various components of language -- vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar
-- are all learned together without rote memorization and drills. Using
a unique method of memory recall developed by renowned linguist, Dr.
Paul Pimsleur, the programs teach listeners to combine words and phrases
to express themselves the way native speakers do. By listening and
responding to thirty minute recorded lessons, students easily and
effectively achieve spoken proficiency.
No other language program or school is as quick, convenient, and
effective as the Pimsleur Language Programs.
The Comprehensive Program is the ultimate in spoken language
learning. For those who want to become proficient in the language of
their choice, the Comprehensive programs go beyond the Basic Programs to
offer spoken-language fluency. Using the same simple method of
interactive self-practice with native speakers, these comprehensive
programs provide a complete language learning course. The Comprehensive
Program is available in a wide variety of languages and runs through
three levels (thirty lessons each) in French, German, Italian, Japanese,
Russian and Spanish. At the end of a full Comprehensive Program
listeners will be conducting complete conversations and be well on their
way to mastering the language. The Comprehensive Programs are all
available on cassettes and are also on CD in the six languages in which
we offer the Basic Program on CD.

The
lazy man's road to Swedish..., July 22, 2002
The course is brilliant. Easy. Way easy. Amazingly easy. Far, far
easier than you ever thought a Swedish course could be. It's so
easy, if you just play the damn tapes and talk back at them you'd
have to be maliciously ill-intentioned not to learn the material.
It's far and away the best Swedish course out there for very lazy
people, which makes it perfect for me. Of course one wishes it had
more than just 10 lessons (and that price!) But what tuition you do
get is basically perfect. |

great
for starters., March 17, 2002

Pimsleur will slam this language into your memory. It is very short
though. I wish it was a complete program like some of the more
popular languages. |

Good,
but basic, June 12, 2001
Reviewer: A reader
This program is very good at repeating and coaching on the limited
vocabulary. Do not expect to know much Swedish at the end of the
program. You will, however, know the words that are presented. |

Wanting
more, August 12, 2000
Reviewer: A reader
I agree very much with the sentiments expressed by others. The
limited information conveyed in the course is superb. However, it is
just too limited to be useful. I hope that Pimsleur produces a more
comprehensive set of Swedish tapes in the near future. |

leaves
one dangling, February 19, 2000
Reviewer: A reader
Adult language learning being at times inevitably frustrating (for
most of us), it seems a bit strange why this course - which is quite
good - simply stops; the repetition is wonderful and I can say ya
talla svenska and vile du dreka vin eler el until the cows come
home, but what's the point of the repetition if it leads to such an
incredibly limited vocabulary? Pimsleur shouldn't bother starting
their programs unless they can finish them,- especially considering
THE CONTEXT they purport to employ! |

Only
an introduction to Swedish., January 10, 2000
This course is great at teaching you to speak and understand
totally from memory about a dozen or so phrases in Swedish without
the use of a textbook. But the lack of phrases is its major
limitation. You will need other Swedish courses to build up a useful
vocabulary. However, it is truely a course that can be used while
driving to work. I hope that Pimsleur will produce the longer course
for Swedish.
