Must Have Sign Language DVD's!!!!, January 11, 2005
Like all of the other praising reviews, these DVD's are wonderful. My son is
14 months old and already has learned 5 different signs. My 5 year old enjoys
using and teaching new signs to his brother. The signs are show very clearly,
slowly and repeatedly, making them easy to learn. I am really looking forward to
purchasing volumes 4-6.
Great results in our family. Worth every penny!, January 11, 2005
My son, who has unilateral hearing loss, is 21 months old and signing: cookie
(which means cookie, cracker and food to him), thirsty, water, cold, banana,
hi/bye, sleep, apple, more and "thank you" all because of the Signing Time DVDs.
The second we put the DVD in and he sees Rachel's familiar face, his whole face
lights up and a smile spreads from ear to ear. He LOVES the DVDs. Not only is he
signing the words, but he is saying them as part of a 31 word vocabulary, many
of which are reinforced in Signing Time.
Most of the toddlers in his playgroup also sign (from using the same DVDs) even
though they have normal hearing. My fellow playgroup parents and I have found
that our children avoid many temper tantrums because they can easily tell us
what they want via a sign. As children learn physical movement faster than
language skills, this makes perfect sense.
The songs are very nicely done and not annoying. They have been lifesavers in
themselves. Whenever my son was learning to walk and would fall down, I would
sing the song about "...when you fall down, you always get back up..." and he
would start smiling rather than crying.
Best of all? You are learning a new language, too!
Best DVDs out there for Kids' ASL!, January 10, 2005
I can't stress enough how wonderful these DVDs are! We bought Vols. 1-3 when
my daughter was 9 mo. - now at 20 months she's learned all those signs & is
ready for Vols. 4-6. The series of 4-6 is even better than the first 3! Rachael
is signing more songs and the music is catchy and fun. The special features on
the DVD are helpful, too. If you're trying to decide which DVDs to get - buy
these first! I'm hoping volumes 7-10 include beginning sentence structure and I
think we'll be ready thanks to the good start we have now.
A MUST HAVE Series for ALL Families, January 8, 2005
We bought Signing Time volumes 1-3 about 6 months ago for our toddler, hoping
it would help reduce some of his temper tantrums. After only a few weeks of
watching the DVD's, our son was able to communicate better than most
preschoolers! All of our friends and family were amazed.
Signing Time is a really fun way to introduce your entire family to American
Sign Language. The songs are up-beat and not at all annoying like most
children's songs tend to be. Rachel Coleman has a great voice - even after
watching the videos hundreds of times! Each video is cast with children of all
ages, ethnicities, and abilities. My son really enjoys watching a variety of
kids engaged in the same everyday activities that he loves.
I can't think of an easier or more entertaining way to introduce your children
to a second language. Save some money on shipping by buying the entire set at
once - you won't regret it!!
